18 “Bring them here to me,” He said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. 19 ...Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied - Matthew 14:18-20
Serving Longview for over 35 yrs.
Founded in 1990, Newgate Mission has been serving Longview's residents for 35 years. We strive to meet the needs of those that are low income, homeless, those experiencing mental illness, disabled and simply, those who are struggling to make ends meet. Newgate provides hot meals, groceries, showers, clothing, health checks and much more all without any cost or qualifications to the ones we serve.
As a safe, Christ-centered community, Newgate is a day mission and soup kitchen that never turns anyone away, serving upwards of 300 people every day. We offer compassion, faith, hope, purpose and renewed dignity. We strongly believe in feeding the body and the soul with daily devotionals and Sunday worship.
Newgate Mission is a life boat.
Each year, Newgate Mission provides hope in the form of life-changing services, including serving over 89,000 meals, housing referrals, mail service, a job readiness program, health and hygiene products, life’s essentials, transportation assistance and a caring and supportive community.
We are only able to do this with the outstanding support of the Longview community.
New Construction
This year, Newgate Mission will launch its first Capital Campaign for a new building! Many of you volunteer at Newgate Mission and have seen the state of our old cinder block building and have experienced, firsthand, how cramped we are for space. Our current building is just shy of 5,000 square feet, but the proposed building will almost triple our total square footage by adding an additional 9,000 square feet. In the new building we will be able to double the size of our current kitchen, build new shower facilities, increase our storage area for things like our hygiene and clothes closet, create a learning room for the classes we offer, and double the size of our dining room. These areas in our current facility are in dire shape. The new build will specifically target the need for new plumbing which is an overwhelming burden we are faced with almost weekly.
Current Building
After the new building is complete, our plans are to turn the old building or the dining room into a “self shopping” supermarket and repurpose the old offices into social services that our patrons desperately need.
Newgate Mission is essential and important to Longview residents.
Last year, Newgate began to see the number of families and individuals we serve grow. Many days 265 - 300 people were served a hot meal and took home groceries from Newgate. Uncertain times and lack of personal resources are the reasons why Newgate Mission is so vital to Longview.
Newgate Mission needs your help to build.
The new facility will be located on the left side of our current building, 207 S. Mobberly Ave., going toward Cotton Street. The total build cost is $3.5 million. We must raise $2.6 million to continue to do the work that so many truly need. For 35 years, Newgate Mission has been a respected anchor in Longview. Please donate to Newgate and help us to continue to do the work of feeding the mind, body and soul. Any amount would be truly appreciated.
Thank you and may God Bless You!
