The 2019 Newgate Mission fundraiser is “An Evening with Ron Hall,” featuring the co-author of the New York Times platinum best-selling book, “Same Kind of Different as Me” and the newly released sequel book, “Workin’ Our Way Home” that takes a deeper look at this life.
This special evening will be held Thursday, April 4, 6:30 p.m. at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center. All proceeds from the event directly benefit Newgate Mission and the vital services it provides our East Texas community.
“Same Kind of Different as Me” is based on Hall’s own true-life story of the unlikely friendship between a homeless man, an international art dealer, and the woman who binds them together. In 1998, Hall was volunteering with his wife, Deborah, at a shelter in Fort Worth, Texas, when they encountered Denver Moore, a homeless man who threatens to kill everyone at the shelter.
In addition to being on the best-seller list for over three-and-one-half years, Hall’s book of hope and inspiration was made into a popular motion picture of the same name starring Greg Kinnear, Renée Zellweger, and Djimon Hounsou (2017).
Following the evening’s program, Ron Hall will be available to sign copies of his books.
